One-hundred black horsemen came. They stopped right in front of his hiding place and the leader summoned two of his men down to scout out a mile or so. Legolas thought, "Black riders I'll have to run for it". And he did -- he ran as fast as he could, but their horses were faster. In an instant, he was caught.
